Bewdley, England

Bewdley, a town of about 11,000 people, is located on the River Severn in Worcestershire.  The town was first granted a charter by King Edward IV in 1472.  The charter provided independence and allowed the town to raise its own income, manage, and police itself in exchange for loyalty to the crown.  The River Severn was an important trade route, and for some time in history, Bewdley was the second largest town in England.

The history of this beautiful Georgian town can be experienced by visiting the many buildings and sites that remain from the past including the butchers’ shambles, which is now the Bewdley Museum.

La Garenne-Colombes, France

La Garenne-Colombes is a town of about 19,000 people in the Hauts-de-Seine district 10 miles from Paris.  Although the “warren of Colombes” had been mentioned as far back as 1240, it wasn’t until the late 1880’s that a village was created here.  The town grew and in 1910 obtained its independence from Colombes.

La Garenne is a town full of activity and opportunities for its citizens.  The many public gardens, a warm town center, and clever town-planning have made La Garenne inviting to both residents and visitors.
