CLARKSVILLE, IN (August 26, 2024) – Nature and imagination come together in a new Storywalk® unveiled Monday in Clarksville’s Gateway Park. The project is a special collaboration between the Clarksville Parks Department, Jeffersonville Township Public Library, and the Duke Energy Foundation.
A Storywalk® is a picture book which families and young children can enjoy while traveling along a walking path. In this case, the story is told as visitors travel along the walking path around the Little League fields in Clarksville’s Gateway Park. The project was made possible thanks to a $10,700 grant from the Duke Energy Foundation.
“The Storywalk® is a great way to offer children a new opportunity to explore literature,” said Lisa Huber, government and community relations manager for Duke Energy in southern Indiana. “It provides a fun way for youth to read outdoors, while enjoying the beauty of nature in the park with their families.”
More than two dozen students from Clarksville Elementary School participated in the ribbon-cutting event. Library officials say the purpose of the Storywalk® is to encourage a love for nature, literacy, and provide a healthy outdoor activity. The activity allows families to experience nature, the park, and stories in a unique and rewarding way that also promotes socialization and interaction among the community.
With help from the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department, new picture books will be put up along the Storywalk® over the course of the year. The Storywalk® is open during regular park hours, sunrise to sunset, 365 days of the year.
