Urban Design Group Explores Clarksville’s New Downtown

CLARKSVILLE, IN (August 13, 2024) – Designing a new downtown from scratch isn’t something that happens everyday, so you can imagine how many urban design professionals would be interested in seeing it all play out.  That was the idea behind a recent walking tour of Clarksville’s newly developed downtown area.

According to its website, the Society of Urban Perambulators (SoUP) is a group dedicated to “exploring/experiencing the City of Louisville and surrounding areas with civic-minded friends and colleagues, getting some exercise, and then maybe meeting up at a watering hole for conversation.”  The group’s latest meeting focused on the former industrial area of South Clarksville which is being redeveloped into a new downtown mixed-use area.  The walking tour included visits to the Bolt + Tie building, Current812, and Clarksville’s new Main Street.  Clarksville Planning Director Neal Turpin was among those leading the tour.

Tour group gathered on the roof of Bolt & Tie.

“It was a good event and people were very excited about what is happening in South Clarksville,” said Turpin.

The group just uploaded a blog post with photos and details about the tour.  You can view the post in its entirety by clicking here.
